Firefighters Extinguish Brush Fire in Kōke‘e Wednesday
Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a brush fire that broke out on Kōke‘e Road on Wednesday.
No injuries were reported, the county reported on Thursday, Aug. 4 and no structures were threatened.
Personnel with the Hanapēpē and Waimea fire stations, Tender 1, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, KFD personnel were dispatched to a brush fire near mile-marker 3 on Kōke‘e Road.
Firefighters arrived on the scene and discovered brush and small trees on fire in a 0.25-acre area on the makai side of Kōke‘e Road. Personnel aboard Truck 7 were positioned at the north end of the fire, while firefighters aboard Engine 7 anchored the south side of the blaze. After the fire was contained, Tender 1 and Truck 6 personnel assisted with extinguishment.
Officials with the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife arrived shortly after to inspect the area.
The scene was cleared at approximately 9:25 p.m.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
