County: No Swimming on South, West Beaches
Ocean Safety Bureau officials are advising no swimming and snorkeling on south- and west-facing shores due to dangerous ocean conditions.
A High Surf Warning remains in effect for south-facing shores through 6 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS says a historic south swell is producing dangerous waves along south-facing shores today through Sunday. Surf is forecasted to build to 14 to 18 feet during the day today, then rise to 18 to 24 feet tonight through Sunday night.
Beachgoers are urged that large, breaking surf, significant shore break, and dangerous currents make entering the water hazardous. Anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death.
