Wailua Man dies Following Wednesday Morning Crash

A Wailua man has died following a single-vehicle crash on Kuamo‘o Road in Wailua early Wednesday morning.

The man has been identified as 21-year-old Dalton Burk of Wailua, the Kaua‘i Police Department stated.

Around 2:15 a.m., Kauaʿi police Department personnel were dispatched to a single-vehicle collision on Kuamo‘o Road in Wailua, approximately half a mile from Kūhiō Highway.

According to a preliminary report, a westbound 1997 Toyota Tacoma struck the embankment on the eastbound shoulder and rolled over.

The 21-year-old was unresponsive when first responders arrived on scene. He was transported to the emergency room at Wilcox Medical Center by medics with American Medical Response and was pronounced dead shortly after.

Kuamo‘o Road in Wailua was closed for approximately two hours while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.

The cause of the crash is under investigation but a preliminary report indicates that alcohol may have been factor. This is Kaua‘i’s sixth traffic fatality this year.
