Lane Closures Scheduled For Several Island Roadways

Lane closures are scheduled next week and beyond for several of the island’s roadways, according to the county.

Dates and times of the projects and necessary lane closures are subject to change depending on weather and other factors.

‘Akuli Street and Hanamāʻulu Road near King Kaumualiʻi Elementary School

The county Department of Public Works and Goodfellow Bros. LLC. announced that sections of ‘Akuli Street and Hanamāʻulu Road will be under short lane closures from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays from July 5-15.

The closures are necessary for work on improvements to pedestrian access to the school, including new striping, signage and landscaping.

Motorists should expect brief occasional delays. As a reminder, the speed limit near King Kaumualiʻi Elementary is 15 mph while school is in session.

Kawaihau Road in Kapa‘a

DPW and Grace Pacific LLC. announced that portions of Kawaihau Road will be closed from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, July 5-8. Additionally, the intersection of Mailihuna, Hau‘a‘ala and Kawaihau roads will experience temporary traffic shifts.

These closures are necessary for clear and grubbing work, roadway excavation and sidewalk construction.

Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time when driving near the work area and follow all construction traffic controls.

“Please exercise caution and drive slowly when commuting through the work area,” a news release from the county said.
