Six Lt. Governor Candidates to Take Part in Online Big Island Forum

The Waimea Community Association on the Big Island is hosting six candidates in the race to become the state’s next lieutenant governor for an online forum today (Thursday, June 16).

The forum is scheduled for 5 p.m. today and is the second online forum hosted by the association this election season. It will feature candidates Keith Amemiya, Ikaika Anderson, Tae Kim, Sylvia Luke, Sherry Menor-McNamara and Seaula Tupa‘i Jr.

Each candidate will have 20 minutes to interact with voters online, beginning with a two-minute introduction followed by a series of questions from the community.

Rosemarie Muller with the Hawai‘i County League of Women Voters will join the forum to brief viewers on the state’s vote-by-mail procedures, including how to register or update voter registration and signing up for the state’s new free online ballot tracking system.

“Voters across the island and state are invited to watch via WCA’s Facebook page or YouTube channel, and the program will be recorded and saved to both YouTube and Facebook for later on-demand viewing,” the association said in a press release.

The Waimea Community Association hosted an online forum with several candidates for governor last week, and it will host two more online candidate forums in July:

• 5 p.m. July 7 for state Senate District 4, state House of Representatives District 8 and County Council Districts 1 and 9 races.
• 5 p.m. July 14 for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives District 2 races.
