High Surf Advisory Issued for South-Facing Shores Statewide
The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for south-facing shores throughout the Hawaiian Islands that is expected to build throughout the day Tuesday as a large, long-period south swell arrives.
The advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. Surf is expected to be 8 to 12 feet.
Impacts will be moderate. Beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.
Large breaking surf, significant shorebreak, and dangerous currents make entering the water very hazardous. Boaters should be aware of an increased number of surfers and bodyboarders utilizing the harbor channel to access surfing areas.
