Update: The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the flood watch for Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau. The watch is now in effect through Thursday afternoon, May 19. The latest advisory said bands of heavy rain associated with a slow moving frontal boundary will increase the threat for flash flooding around Kaua‘i this afternoon and continue through Thursday.

Original story: The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau for Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night.

Bands of showers with locally heavy rainfall ahead of an approaching front will increase the threat of flooding across Kaua‘i beginning early Wednesday.

Flood-prone roads and other low-lying areas may be closed due to elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas may receive more significant flooding and property damage due to rapid runoff.
