Accident Sends 2 to Hospital

A portion of Rice street in Līhu‘e was closed in both directions for three hours late on Friday following a traffic collision that sent a pair of people to the hospital.
According to a preliminary report, at approximately 11:25 p.m., a two-vehicle collision was reported on Rice Street fronting the Rice Shopping Center. An on-scene investigation revealed that a Toyota pickup operated by a 19-year-old female of Lāwa‘i was traveling eastbound on Rice Street when it crossed the center line and struck an oncoming car. The impact caused the Toyota pickup to flip several times before coming to rest on its roof.
The 19-year-old driver and 17-year-old male passenger were both transported to Wilcox Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The 37-year-old male operator of the vehicle that was struck did not sustain any injuries.
