Reminder: Menehune Road Near Waimea Swinging Bridge to Be Closed
Work on a historic island bridge will require the closure of a portion of a nearby roadway.
The county Department of Public Works is reminding the public that Menehune Road near the Waimea Swinging Bridge will be closed from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, May 4-6.
“This closure is necessary to allow Kaikor Construction to install a permanent tower to the Waimea Swinging Bridge as well as other essential permanent components,” said a news release from the county, adding that the swinging bridge will also be closed to pedestrian access during the work period.
Dates and times are subject to change, depending on weather and other factors.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources alternate emergency access route, known as Panini Road, is open to residents and first responders via 4-wheel drive use only.
“Motorists are urged to drive slowly and cautiously through the area,” the news release said.
