Hawai‘i Youth Symphony is now accepting registrations for its 2022 Pacific Music Institute summer program, with in-person instruction from July 17-24 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center in Honolulu.

The summer program provides students with a comprehensive music curriculum — sectionals, rehearsals, master class performances and more. This summer also marks the fourth year of the institute’s Orchestral Learning Alliance, featuring artist faculty and teaching fellows from the National Orchestral Institute+Festival.

Offerings include Solo and String Quartet, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Intensive. Students entering sixth grade and up can participate in the Solo and String Quartet program and students in eighth grade and up can take part in all other sections.

“My dear colleagues and I cherish the time we spend with our students,” Ignace “Iggy” Jang, educator and concertmaster who will once again lead the Solo and String Quartet program this year, said in a press release. “As much as we strive to inspire them, we are equally amazed at their enthusiasm and drive for excellence. Seeing the students playing alongside peers from all walks of life, with a shared love of music, is inspiring to behold. It strengthens our conviction that our future is in great hands.”

The well-being of students, faculty and staff is paramount, and safety measures will be in place during the summer program to keep the music playing in-person. Students ages 12-18 are required to be fully vaccinated.

Registration is due May 31. Kama‘aina discounts are available at checkout for Hawai‘i students.
