The Wainiha Community Resilience Center is intended to provide year-round community services and double to serve the Wainiha and Hāʻena communities during emergencies. The modest center will include a satellite office for the State of Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of State Parks, and two offices for the Kaua‘i Police Department the Kaua‘i Fire Department. In addition, the center will include a certified kitchen, a covered lanai for meetings and gatherings, emergency power generation, secure storage for emergency supplies and medicine, a management office, and a staging space for resource distribution during emergencies.

Preliminary designs for the center were presented at a community meeting in February 2020, where feedback and comments were collected. This input, along with information from additional meetings with community groups, guided modifications and improvements for the final designs, including a strong emphasis on burial mitigation, wastewater, and community resource storage space. The presentation will cover burial mitigation planning, a historical overview of the site, site improvements, and structural designs.
