Body of Missing Diver Found Off Nawiliwili Waters
The body of a visitor reported missing after diving into waters off Nawiliwili early this morning has been located.
A multi-agency search party was launched at around 3:30 a.m., which included the Kaua‘i Police Department, Kaua‘i Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, and the lifeguards. Helicopters and rescue boats were also deployed.
At approximately 6 a.m., a body was found by a Coast Guard helicopter 50 to 60 yards off the shore.
A Coast Guard cutter then recovered the individual and administered first aid and resuscitation efforts. He was then transported to the Coast Guard station at Nawiliwili where medics relieved the crew who had recovered the man. Resuscitation efforts were continued as he was transported to the Wilcox Hospital emergency room.
At approximately 7:45 a.m. emergency care providers pronounced the man deceased. The identity of the individual shall remain confidential until family members have been properly notified.
