The U.S. Army Recruiting Station, Kaua‘i, is partnering with an island nonprofit to honor and celebrate teachers.

The recruiting station teamed up with Kumu’s Cupboard, a local organization that provides free school supplies to educators on Kaua‘i, and is collecting donations of school supplies from 3-5 p.m. each Monday through May 3 at the Pau Hana Farmers Market. On May 3, Teacher Appreciation Day, the recruiting station will present Kumu’s Cupboard with all of the donated supplies, which will be made available for educators around the island.

JROTC cadets from Kapa‘a and Waimea high schools also will host a free car wash for teachers from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. May 1 in the Macy’s parking lot at Kukui Grove Center.

Additionally, the recruiting station is accepting nominations from high school students at Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i and Waimea high schools for an outstanding teacher. Army recruiters on Teacher Appreciation Day will present the top teacher from each school with a certificate and a token of appreciation for their hard work and selflessness as educators.
