The University of Hawaiʻi is hosting an event for students exploring career options in the information technology sector and connect them with local employers.

The online IT Career Fair is scheduled for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, April 29. The event is targeted for graduating or recently graduated UH students and offers the chance to engage one-on-one with employers recruiting for current positions in the state’s emerging IT industry.

“The University of Hawaiʻi is committed to preparing our students to successfully compete for in-demand IT jobs in Hawaiʻi,” said Alan Ito, UH IT Workforce Development and Regulated Policy lead, in a press release. “The need for a highly skilled IT workforce in Hawai‘i has never been greater and our goal for this event is to connect our graduating students with our local employers who are looking to hire for these in-demand, high paying jobs.”

According to the press release, research shows that demand for IT employees in the islands exceeds the number of available people seeking IT jobs and continues to grow. In 2020, the IT sector in Hawaiʻi was responsible for 12,740 jobs, 3,834 hires and 894 annual job openings.

“The need for skilled IT professionals is ever-growing,” said Steve Robertson, executive vice president at Hawai‘i Pacific Health, in the release. “As a local employer, Hawai‘i Pacific Health understands the desire for graduates to find fulfilling work here at home. We hope to be able to fill as many positions as possible with local talent so that they can achieve their career goals and add to Hawai’i’s workforce.”

Pre-registration is required to attend the career fair, and uploading a resume is encouraged.

Participating students are also invited to attend a free resume writing workshop from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, April 21. Registration is required.
