Wailua Woman Found in Overturned Vehicle in Critical Condition

A Wailua woman is in critical condition after she was pulled from her vehicle, which was found overturned in a Kapaʿa stream off of Kamalu Road.

According to a preliminary report, the 2013 Honda Accord was found overturned in the Kalama Stream off of Kamalu Road just north of Wailua Homesteads around 1:45 p.m. on Monday, March 15. According to county officials, the 70-year-old woman, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, was headed north on Kamalu Road when she lost control and struck the right side of the bridge before overturning into the stream.

Emergency responders extricated with the woman and she was transported to Mahelona Hospital in critical condition. She has since been transferred to Wilcox Memorial Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

At this time, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
