The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for portions of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau.

The advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday, March 5, for north- and west-facing shores of both islands. The NWS is forecasting large breaking waves rising to 12-16 feet along these shorelines.

Residents and visitors can expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers are advised to heed all directions given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
