The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a high surf warning starting tonight at 6 p.m. till Saturday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m.

Large breaking waves of 25 to near 40 feet are expected along north- and west-facing shores of Niʻihau and Kauaʻi.

Officials say to expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, strong breaking waves and strong longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may at times impact harbors, making navigating the harbor channel dangerous.

Overwash will impact typically vulnerable low-lying coastal roadways, particularly during high tide times.

Large, breaking surf, significant shorebreak and dangerous currents make entering the water very hazardous. Anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death.
