Hiker rescued on Kalalau Trail Friday

First responders rescued an injured 56-year-old California hiker on the Kalalau Trail on Friday.

Personnel with the Hanalei Fire Station, Rescue 3, Air 1, and American Medical Response responded to the incident, the county stated in a news release Saturday.

According to preliminary reports, at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Friday, first responders received a call of an injured hiker on the Kalalau Trail.

At approximately 5 p.m., Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 arrived on the scene and found the injured hiker on the Kalalau Trail in the vicinity of Ho‘olulu falls.

First responders extracted the injured hiker and transported him to a landing zone at Princeville Airport to awaiting Hanalei firefighters and AMR personnel.

AMR then treated the hiker while on transport to a Wilcox Medical Center ER.

The scene was cleared at approximately 5:10 p.m.
