Specialty Polynesian Voyaging Society License Plates Available

Starting Monday, Feb. 7, a specialty license plate featuring the Polynesian Voyaging Society will be available for purchase at the county Department of Motor Vehicles.

According to a news release from the county, the specialty plates will cost $36, of which $20 will be donated to the society. The remaining costs include $10 toward the purchase of the plate, $1 for a new emblem and $5 for processing.

To purchase a Polynesian Voyaging Society specialty license plate, follow these instructions:

  • Complete two applications — “Organizational License Plate Application” and “Application for Replacement License Plates and/or Emblem.” You can access these forms online. Under “Vehicle Services,” click on “Replacement Plates, Emblem and Registration” and “Personalized/Organizational License Plates.”
  • Bring in your current vehicle registration and license plates.
  • Pay the applicable fees via cash, check or credit/debit card.

In order to receive a Polynesian Voyaging Society specialty license plate, the vehicle safety check must be current. If the vehicle registration is expired or will expire within 45 days of the processing period, renewal fees must be paid prior to receiving your license plate.

Additionally, if you are replacing your electric vehicle plates, you will still be required to pay the electric vehicle surcharge.

The DMV is open to all customers from 8:45 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays. Kupuna Hour is from 8-8:45 a.m.

To book an appointment for a Polynesian Voyaging Society specialty license plate, click click here and then click on “Book Your DMV Appointment.” Select “Motor Vehicles” and then “MVR All Others.”
