The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended a high surf advisory in effect for north- and west-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau.

The advisory remains in effect through 6 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, surf along exposed north- and west-facing shores will continue to be around advisory levels tonight as a northwest swell remains in the region. Surf of 12-16 feet is forecast along north-facing shores of Ni‘ihau and Kaua‘i and 8-12 feet along west-facing shores of both island.

Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous.
