The National Weather Service issued a high surf warning in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, for north- and west-facing shores.

Surf is expected to build to 25 to 35 feet along the north-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, and Maui. Surf is building to 18 to 25 feet along west-facing shores of Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu and Molokaʻi.

Surf will build down the island chain through the day today, Jan. 21, peak tonight into Saturday, then lower through the second half of the weekend.

Expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and strong longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may occasionally impact harbors making navigating the harbor channel dangerous.
