The American Red Cross closed the emergency shelter at the Waimea Neighborhood Center at 8:30 a.m. for residents affected by a landslide on Menehune Road.

Menehune Road near the Waimea Swinging Bridge remains closed until further notice due to Tuesday morning’s landslide.

Rockfall mitigation contractors are expected on-site today to begin slope stabilization work. Additionally, Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami issued an emergency proclamation as a result of the landslide.
