KPD Steps Up Traffic Enforcement Amid Holidays
The Kauaʿi Police Department is ushering in the holiday season by stepping up traffic enforcement around the island.
There will be an increased police presence now through January 2022 on Kauaʿi roadways.
Among the ways that Kauaʿi police will be making sure motorists stay safe will be to set up weekly sobriety checkpoints during evening hours at various locations around the island.
Police will also be monitoring speeding, seatbelt wearing and the use of cell phones while driving.
“The holidays can be stressful, which means people get distracted and pay less attention to the road. They can also become more aggressive with their driving,” said Patrol Services Bureau Traffic Safety Section Acting Lieutenant Jay Scribner. “We want to help mitigate these things and make sure everyone arrives to their destination safely.”
Sobriety checkpoints will be occurring weekly around the island this holiday season.
