The Solid Waste Division is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying businesses that are using polystyrene containers.

A new county ordinance, which restricts the use and sale of foam containers takes effect on Jan. 1, 2022.

“Under this new law food providers shall not sell, use, provide, or offer polystyrene foam food service containers,” county officials stated. “Food service container means all plates, trays, cups, bowls, cartons, and hinged or lidded containers (clamshells) on or in which any foods or beverages are packaged.”

The County will be providing direct education and assistance to businesses using polystyrene containers before legislation goes into effect. Call 808-241-4841 to report the use of polystyrene food containers.
