The state of Hawai´i has welcomed back vaccinated tourists.

While there was no travel ban in effect like the one that existed for a large portion of 2020, Governor David Ige in August made public comments discouraging any non essential travel to the Hawaiian Islands. The reason was the worst surge of the pandemic, caused by the Delta variant.

Now, however, fewer than 70 people are hospitalized statewide with COVID-related illness, with more than 71% of the population fully vaccinated.

Lieutenant Governor Josh Green told Hawii News Now that the chances of vaccinated tourists having a serious negative impact on the health of Hawai´i’s people is low enough to allow for much needed economic recovery, as tourism based industries have struggled or been decimated over the previous year and a half by travel- and activity-related restrictions.
