Injured Hiker Airlifted Off Hanakāpī‘ai Beach

An Arizona man was airlifted off Hanakāpī‘ai Beach after falling and injuring his leg and shoulder while hiking along a trail Friday, Oct. 1, 2021.

Kauaʻi Fire Department first received the call of the injured 71-year-old hiker on Hanakāpī‘ai Trail at approximately 3:40 p.m. Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 were dispatched to the man’s location at Hanakāpī‘ai Beach.

Once on scene, rescuers loaded the man aboard Air 1 and transported him to Princeville Airport, where awaiting Hanalei firefighters and AMR medics provided additional support and treatment.

The scene was cleared at approximately 5:30 p.m.
