KFD Rescues ‘Exhausted’ Visitors From Kalalau Trail

First responders rescued two visitors from the Kalalau Trail on Thursday. 

According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report at approximately 5 p.m. of a male hiker experiencing exhaustion on the Kalalau Trail on Thursday.

Crews with the Hanalei fire station, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and American Medical Response responded to the incident.

At 5:30 p.m., Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 located the male hiker. He was with a female companion whom firefighters assisted.

First responders secured the hiker aboard Air 1 and transferred him to Princeville Airport. At approximately 6 p.m., first responders returned to Kalalau to retrieve the female hiker and the firefighter who assisted her.

Firefighters with the Hanalei fire station and responding medics with AMR assessed and treated the male hiker, who later was transferred to a local hospital. The female hiker did not require medical attention.

The scene was cleared at approximately 6:45 p.m.
