Kaua´i School Site of COVID Cluster, DOH Says
The state Department of Health said that an independent school on the Island of Kaua´i that was not strictly adhering to face covering mandates has been confirmed as the site of a large COVID-19 cluster.
DOH released the information as part of its newest case cluster report. The school was not expressly identified in that report.
According to the DOH, a total of 27 teachers and students tested positive as a result, which led to 18 close contacts coming down with coronavirus.
In response, the unnamed institution temporarily suspended in-person instruction, along with other measures, to stem the spread of the virus.
Also part of the report was a Maui elementary school cluster of 26 individuals. DOH said two people came to school while showing symptoms of COVID-19, which is a direct violation of one of the primary mitigation directives that asks all students, teachers and other employees to remain home if they are experiencing even mild symptoms of illness.
