Construction of the Kawaihau-Hau‘a‘ala-Mailihuna Complete Street and Safety Improvements Project begins this week, on weekdays, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This week the contractor will be setting up their baseyard and mobilizing equipment. Lane closures are scheduled to start in early October. Additional press releases will be provided with detailed road closure information, once scheduled.

The main scope of work consists of constructing a new peanut-shaped roundabout at the five-way intersection of Kawaihau Road, Hau‘a‘ala Road, and Mailihuna Road. Additional improvements include new concrete sidewalks fronting Kapa‘a Elementary School, Kapa‘a High School and St. Catherine School, new bus shelters, concrete medians along Kawaihau Road, intersection modifications, pavement widening, flashing beacons at crosswalks, and other incidental work. Construction of the project is expected through late 2022.
