Hiker With Injured Ankle Rescued of Kalalau Trail

First responders rescued a 60-year-old Delaware visitor from the Kalalau Trail on Monday, Sept. 13.

According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report at approximately 11:50 a.m. of a female hiker with an ankle injury on the Kalalau Trail on Monday.

Crews with the Hanalei fire station, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and American Medical Response responded to the incident.

At 12:20 p.m., Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 was en route to the hiker.

Shortly after, first responders spotted the hiker who bystanders were tending to at the 2.5-mile marker of the trail. First responders secured the hiker aboard Air 1 and transferred her to Princeville Airport.

Firefighters with the Hanalei fire station and responding medics with AMR assessed and treated the hiker, who later was transferred to a local hospital.

The scene was cleared at approximately 2:30 p.m.
