Kauaʻi Weekly Lane Closures: Sept. 4-10

Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation announced weekly road and lane closures for Sept. 4-10. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

Starting Saturday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m., public access for Kūhiō Highway (Route 560) at mile marker 1 (“Hanalei Hill”) will be extended. See below for details.

There will be no daytime roadwork scheduled on Monday, Sept. 6, in observance of Labor Day, unless permitted. Kūhiō Highway special use lanes will not be operational.

— KŪHIŌ HIGHWAY (ROUTES 56/560) —

KAPAʻA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single-lane closure of Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) in both directions between mile markers 5.7 and 6.6, Kūhiō Highway and Kapaʻa Bypass, on Sunday, Sept. 5, through Friday, Sept. 10, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for lane and shoulder work. Existing lanes will be realigned and narrowed 24 hours a day.

KAPAʻA TO ANAHOLA

Right lane closure of Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) in both directions between mile markers 9.8 and 13.6, Mailihuna Road and Kikoʻo Loop, on Tuesday, Sept. 7, through Friday, Sept. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for landscaping and tree trimming work.

KĪLAUEA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY/NIGHT WORK)

Single-lane closure of Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) in both directions between mile markers 19 and 21.6, Kapuna Road and Wailapa Road, on Friday evening, Sept. 3 through Saturday morning, Sept. 4, and Sunday evening, Sept. 5 through Friday morning, Sept. 10, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for road reconstruction and resurfacing work.

Right lane closure of Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) in both directions between mile markers 23.3 and 25.1, Kolo Road and Kalihiwai Road, on Tuesday, Sept. 7 through Friday, Sept. 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., for landscaping and tree trimming work.

HANALEI (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single-lane closure of Kūhiō Highway (Route 560) in both directions between mile markers 0.0 and 1.3, Kūhiō Highway and Ohiki Road, on Saturday, Sept. 4, and Monday, Sept. 6 through Friday, Sept. 10, from 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for Hanalei Hill emergency project construction. There will be an alternating single lane closure along Kūhiō Highway between the Kolopua Apartments and Hanalei Bridge during set times throughout the day.

Note: Starting Saturday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m., public access through the Hanalei Hill work zone will be extended. The updated schedule with single lane alternating traffic (with pilot vehicle escort):

  • Monday-Saturday: 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
  • Two lanes open (no pilot vehicle)
  • Monday through Saturday: 5:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Sundays/State holidays: All-day

The schedule for public access for the upcoming week will be:

Saturday (Sept. 4):

  • 5:30-8 a.m. (Hanalei side goes first)
  • 8:30-9 a.m.
  • 9:30-10 a.m.
  • 10:30-11 a.m.
  • 11:30 a.m. to noon.
  • 12:30-1 p.m.
  • 1:30-2 p.m.
  • 2:30-3 p.m.
  • 3:30-4 p.m.
  • 4:30-5 p.m.
  • 5:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. (Two lanes open, no pilot car)

Sundays and State Holidays (from Sept. 5):

Two lanes open all day (no pilot car)

Monday – Saturday (from Sept. 6):

  • 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Single lane alternating traffic (with pilot vehicle escort)
  • 5:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Two lanes open (no pilot car)

HANALEI (WEEKEND WORK)

Right lane closure of Kūhiō Highway (Route 560) in both directions between mile markers 1.2 and 2.2, Ohiki Road and Aku Road, on Saturday, Sept. 4, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for culvert cleaning and guardrail work.
