Kauaʻi Weekly Lane Closures: Aug. 28-Sept. 3

Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation announced weekly road and lane closures for Aug. 28 to Sept. 3. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

Starting Saturday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m., public access for Kūhiō Highway (Route 560) at mile marker 1 (“Hanalei Hill”) will be extended. See below for details.

— KŪHIŌ HIGHWAY (ROUTES 56/560) —

LĪHUʻE

Single-lane closure of Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) in both directions between mile markers 0.0 and 0.5, Rice Street and Eha Street, on Monday, Aug. 30 through Friday, Sept. 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for traffic signal work. Traffic will be routed through the open lane with flaggers and traffic control devices present.

KAPAʻA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY/NIGHT WORK)

Single-lane closure of Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) in both directions between mile markers 5.7 and 6.6, Kūhiō Highway and Kapaʻa Bypass, on Monday evening, Aug. 30, through Friday morning, Sept. 3, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., for lane and shoulder work. Existing lanes will be realigned and narrowed 24 hours a day.

KĪLAUEA (WEEKEND/WEEKLY/NIGHT WORK)

Single-lane closure of Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) in both directions between mile markers 19 and 21.6, Kapuna Road and Wailapa Road, on Sunday evening, Aug. 29 through Friday morning, Sept. 3, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., for road reconstruction and resurfacing work.

HANALEI (WEEKEND/WEEKLY WORK)

Single-lane closure of Kūhiō Highway (Route 560) in both directions between mile markers 0.0 and 1.3, Kūhiō Highway and Ohiki Road, on Saturday, Aug. 28, and Monday, Aug. 30 through Friday, Sept. 3, from 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for slope stabilization work. There will be an alternating single lane closure along Kūhiō Highway between the Kolopua Apartments and Hanalei Bridge during set times throughout the day.

Starting Saturday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m., public access through this Hanalei Hill work zone will be extended. The updated schedule will be:

Monday-Saturday
7 a.m.-5:30 p.m.: Single lane alternating traffic (with pilot vehicle escort)

Monday-Saturday
5:30 p.m.-7 a.m.: Two lanes open (no pilot vehicle)

Sundays/State holidays: All-day

The schedule for public access for the upcoming week (Aug. 28 – Sept. 3) will be:

5:30-8 a.m. (Hanalei side goes first)
8:30-9 a.m.
9:30-10 a.m.
10:30-11 a.m.
11:30 a.m. to noon.
12:30-1 p.m.
1:30-2 p.m.
2:30-3 p.m.
3:30-4 p.m.
4:30-5 p.m.
5:30 p.m. to midnight.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday:
5:30-7:45 a.m. (Hanalei side goes first)
1-2:30 p.m. (Princeville side goes first)
5:30 p.m. to midnight (Princeville side goes first)

Wednesday:
5:30-7:45 a.m. (Hanalei side goes first)
12:30-2 p.m. (Princeville side goes first)
5:30 p.m. to midnight (Princeville side goes first)

Sunday and State Holiday:
5:30 a.m. to midnight (Hanalei side goes first)

During access hours the highway at Hanalei Hill will be open to single-lane, alternating traffic for passenger cars and light trucks. These vehicles will be escorted through the work zone by a pilot vehicle.
