549 New COVID-19 Cases Reported Statewide

The Hawai‘i Department of Health reported 549 new cases of coronavirus statewide Thursday, bringing the overall total to 48,397. One new COVID-related death was also reported.

Today’s fatality was a male between 30-39 years of age and was hospitalized with underlying health conditions on O‘ahu.

Starting today, Aug. 12, the Department of Health’s Disease Outbreak Control Division will report the daily COVID-19 case count at 9:01 a.m.

“As the pandemic evolves, this change will ensure the public has timely and accurate information that is verified by the DOH’s team of data scientists and epidemiologists,” DOH officials stated Thursday, Aug. 12.

A total of 122 new infections were identified on the Big Island Thursday. On Wednesday, Aug. 11, there were 1,239 active cases and 24 individuals are hospitalized.

The state’s two-week average dipped slightly to 512 new cases daily, with a test positivity rate of 7.3%. A map documenting new cases by district across all islands can be accessed at the DOH website.

The island-by-island case count is as follows:

Out-of-State: 1,934

A total of 2,962 individuals have been hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 546 have died.

To date, a total of 1,793,464 doses of the vaccine have been administered statewide, with 61.1% of the population fully vaccinated and 68.7% having received at least one shot.
