A baby shark discovered at Lydgate Beach Park has closed the large pond to swimming until the animal is able to swim out to sea.

The two-foot-long shark was discovered Tuesday, according to the Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau.

Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau officials are advising no swimming in the large pond at Lydgate Beach Park until further notice due to reports of a baby shark that is unable to swim out to sea. The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Aquatic Resources is working on a plan to safely capture and relocate the shark back into the ocean.

Until then, beachgoers are asked to follow all posted warning signs and advisories. Updates will be given as more information is available.
