Finance Department Offering Extended Hours Through Aug. 6
The Drivers Licensing division of the Department of Finance will continue extended hours through Friday, Aug. 6, allowing eligible customers to renew their driver’s licenses, learner’s permits, and state identification cards that expired on or after March 16, 2020.
Only customers meeting these criteria may come to the Drivers Licensing division for service between 4 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., during the effective dates. No appointments are necessary and customers will be assisted on a first-come, first-served basis. To ensure service, it is recommended to get in line early.
“Since we began offering this extra hour of service, we’ve seen it help customers who were unaware of this deadline and would have incurred a fee if they didn’t come to renew in time,” said Reiko Matsuyama, Finance Director. “We want to service as many customers as possible through the end of the emergency proclamation period and encourage all affected to utilize this service before it’s too late.”
For appointments during regular business hours, visit www.kauai.gov/DMV. Normal hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for state and federal holidays. Kupuna hour is also still available for those 65 years or older, from 8 to 8:45 a.m. No appointments are necessary for Kupuna hour.
The Department of Motor Vehicles consists of the Drivers Licensing division and the Motor Vehicle division. Extended service hours during the effective dates applies only to eligible customers in the Drivers Licensing division. The Motor Vehicle division will not have extended service hours.
Masks are required for entry and service at the Department of Motor Vehicles, and social distancing guidelines will continue to be enforced.
