The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for south-facing shores of all Hawaiian Islands.

Surf along south facing shores quickly rose to the advisory level Sunday evening, then above it. It will remain at/or above that level through at least Tuesday, as a long-period, south swell arrives and moves through. This will be a long-lived event with surf likely holding at or slightly above the advisory level through the day Wednesday as the swell begins to ease.

The high surf advisory is officially in effect until 6 pm Wednesday night. Surf of 8-12 feet is predicted through Monday through Tuesday.

Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous. Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
