Hiker Rescued in Wailua After Falling Off Trail Ledge

A hiker was rescued off of Sleeping Giant Trail in Wailua after slipping and falling 30 feet Tuesday, June 29.

The fall was called into Kaua‘i Police Department Dispatch at approximately 10:20 a.m. Ten minutes later, Kaua‘i Fire Department arrived on scene and made contact with the hiker’s father via cell.

About one mile into the trail, two firefighters from Truck 2 located the hiker with her father and brother. The 35-year-old hiker displayed signs of a concussion after slipping and falling off the trail onto a ledge.

At 11:20 a.m., Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 located the party, retrieved the hiker off the ledge and transported her to a landing zone in Wailua House lots.

The hiker was treated by personnel with the American Medical Response and later transported to a local hospital.

Crews with the Kapa‘a fire station, Engine 2, Truck 2, Rescue 3, Air 1, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident. The scene was cleared at 11:40 a.m.
