Hiker Suffers Ankle Injury, Rescued in Kōke‘e

A 30-year-old female visitor was rescued in Kōke‘e after suffering an ankle injury on the Awaʻawapuhi Trail.

Kaua‘i Police Department Dispatch received the report of the injured hiker at approximately 3 p.m. on Friday, June 18.  Kaua‘i Fire crews with the Waimea fire station, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

At 3:45 p.m., Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 found a group of hikers and confirmed the injured woman’s location.  She was then airlifted out on Air 1,  to awaiting firefighters and personnel with American Medical Response.

Responding medics with AMR treated the hiker. Officials say the injured ankle was the extent of her injuries. She was transported to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
