Due to the ongoing COVID-19 emergency response, Gov. David Ige’s 21st proclamation has extended the validity of all driver’s licenses, learner’s permits and state identification cards for 60 days beyond their expiration date.

Those credentials with expiration dates between March 16, 2020, and June 8, 2021, have been extended until Aug. 6, 2021.

“It is anticipated that this will be the last extension granted via emergency proclamations,” said Finance Director Reiko Matsuyama. “If you have an expired driver’s license, learner’s permit or state ID, you should make advanced preparations to renew prior to Aug. 6. After that date, late penalties will be enforced.”

Appointments are required for in-person visits to renew driver’s licenses, state identification cards, or learner’s permits. To make an appointment, visit www.kauai.gov/DMV.
