Full Closure of Mailihuna Road Scheduled as Part of Kapa‘a Stream Bridge Project
A full closure of Mailihuna Road between Kūhiō Highway and Silva Road is scheduled next week as part of the Kapa‘a Stream Bridge project.
The closure is set to begin on June 1-11 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The full closure is to perform the grading and asphalt paving of the roundabout and new roadway from the bridge, according to the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation.
Electronic message boards informing the public of the upcoming closure were set up near entry points to the work zone last week.
Local residential traffic access will be detoured to Kawaihau Road and Hauaala Road. Traffic control flaggers will be stationed where Kawaihau Road and Hauaala Road intersect Kūhiō Highway from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the first three days of the closure to help mitigate any congestion caused by the work. During that time, traffic flow will be monitored and any subsequent scheduling modifications for flaggers will be made as necessary.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and drive with care when traveling through the work area. Roadwork is weather permitting.
