Starting today, May 6, Kaua‘i has moved to tier 3 of its COVID-19 safety protocols for the island due to the significant increase in case counts.

During Mayor Derek SK Kawakami’s bi-weekly COVID-19 report, he said the change in tiers moves social gathering limits to five people indoors and keeps the outdoor number at 25 people.

The change in tiers does allow for team sports to continue with strict COVID-19 safety protocols in place.

There are currently 63 cases reported, with a 339 cumulative case count. On Thursday, May 6, one new case was reported. It was a visitor and the infection was related to international travel.
