10 Hawaiʻi Airports to Receive Federal Funding

Ten airports across Hawaiʻi’s Second Congressional District will receive $26,795,585 from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant funds are part of the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations.

“Our airports require maintenance and timely improvements to remain open, safe, and operational for all of our residents and visitors who rely on them for travel, recreation, and access to emergency services,” said Congressman Kaialiʻi Kahele, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “These funds will help ensure that all airports throughout the Second Congressional District are in working order. In Congress, I will continue to fight to ensure federal Coronavirus relief resources help Hawaiʻi.”

The Department of Transportation issued Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations grants to the following 10 airports:

· Waimea-Kohala Airport – $9,000
· Kawaihāpai (Dillingham) Airfield – $9,000
· Hana Airport – $9,000
· Kalaupapa Airport – $9,000
· Moloka‘i Airport – $1,028,288
· Lana‘i Airport – $1,026,894
· Līhu‘e Airport – $5,662,781
· Hilo International Airport – $3,879,173
· Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport – $6,136,719
· Kahului Airport – $9,025,630

Kahele is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and sits on the Aviation, and Highways and Transit subcommittees. The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is one of the largest committees in Congress and has jurisdiction over all modes of transportation: aviation, maritime and waterborne transportation, highways, bridges, mass transit, and railroads.
