Līhuʿe Man Faces Charges After Theft of Vehicle from Dealership

Līhuʿe man was taken into custody Tuesday, March 23, after reportedly stealing a vehicle from Garden Island Auto Sales.

The incident occurred around when 10 a.m. when it was reported to Kauaʿi Police Department that a 2016 silver Ford van had been stolen from the Līhuʿe car dealership.

Officers spotted the vehicle and the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Kaz Alcos, around 2 p.m. while on patrol in Līhuʿe. A pursuit began which encompassed several sites in Līhuʿe and Nāwiliwili.

The suspect abandoned the stolen vehicle near Guardian Self Storage in Nāwiliwili, and fled on foot, but was apprehended soon thereafter near the Kauaʿi Athletic Club.

Alcos was arrested and charged with two counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, first-degree resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle and reckless driving.

He is currently in cellblock and is being held on a $17,000 bail. Mugshot of the suspect has not yet been released.
