Flood Advisory Extended into This Afternoon
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the flood advisory until 2:30 p.m. for the Garden Island.
This advisory may need to be extended if flooding persists.
At 10:52 a.m., radar indicated some showers moving over the western shore of Kaua‘i, with rainfall rates up to one inch per hour. Recent showers over interior and eastern parts of the island have caused rises in the the Hanalei River and the South Fork of the Wailua River.
Kūhiō Highway near the Hanalei Bridge remains closed, and some landslides have been reported along Kūhiō Highway.
A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for the State of Hawaii until 6 p.m. Friday.
Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
