The National Weather Service has cancelled a tsunami watch for the state of Hawai´i.
A magnitude-8.1 earthquake 600 miles off the coast of New Zealand prompted the statewide tsunami watch. The Office of Gov. David Ige also subsequently issued a suggestion to people in low-lying, coastal areas to begin emergency preparations as a precaution.
However, NWS said forecasters have determined that there is no tsunami threat to the state of Hawai´i as of 12:20 pm Thursday, March 4.
