Flash Flooding Closes Portion of Kūhiō Highway
The National Weather Service has extended a Flash Flood Warning for the island of Kaua‘i through 8:15 a.m.
Kūhiō Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge remains closed. Additionally, the northbound lane of Kūhiō Highway at Kalihiwai Bridge is closed due to ponding.
According to NWS, rain has dissipated some, but some rain continues falling at a rate of up to 1 inch per hour. Several stream gages continue to be elevated, but are on the decline.
Other areas that could be experiencing flooding include: Līhu‘e, Kapa‘a, Princeville, Kīlauea, North Fork Wailua Trails, Hanalei, Wainiha, Wailua Homesteads, Hā‘ena, Wailua, Na Pali State Park, Moloa‘a, Koke‘e State Park, Anahola, Kalihiwai, Wailua River State Park, Hanamaulu and Waimea Canyon State Park.
Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected. If you must drive, please do so with extreme caution.
A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads and low-lying areas. Do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
