High Winds, Waves Expected Around Kaua‘i Waters

10:26 AM HST Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021: National Weather Service in Honolulu

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Special Marine Warning for Kaua‘i Channel as well as leeward, northwest and windward waters until 12:30 p.m. HST.

At 10:25 a.m. HST, a line of heavy showers with embedded thunderstorms was approaching Kaua‘i from the east, along a line extending from 15 nm east of FAD Buoy BB to 22 nm south of FAD Buoy CK, moving west at 15 knots.

Radar indicated wind gusts up to 40 knots. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.

Locations impacted include: Nawiliwili Harbor, FAD Buoy CK, FAD Buoy DK, FAD Buoy EK, Kīlauea Lighthouse, Kikiaola Harbor and Hanalei Bay.

Individuals are advised to move to safe harbor immediately as gusty winds and high waves are expected.
