The Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported two new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Jan. 1.

Friday’s cases are adult residents, one male and one female, whose sources of infection are travel related. All active cases are in isolation, and one case remains hospitalized on O‘ahu. Close contacts are being identified, directed to quarantine, and offered testing.

Friday’s cases bring the number of on-island active cases to 8, with 171 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 149 confirmed locally, one probable, and 21 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.
