The Department of Public Works invites residents to participate in a virtual public meeting regarding the Hanapēpē Bridge Rehabilitation Project.

The meeting is scheduled for Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. The proposed project will repair spalled and delaminated areas of exposed reinforcing in the deck, girders, floor beams, abutments, pier walls, and railings.

The existing AC and base course will be removed, and a new concrete deck will be placed on top of the original deck along with an asphalt overlay. In addition, the elevated walkway on the makai side of the bridge will be restored to operational condition by placing new, preformed concrete slabs for the walkway surface and sides.

The restored elevated walkway accessed by stairs, an Americans with Disabilities Act compliant pedestrian sidewalk will be provided on the rehabilitated bridge by using tubular reflective delineators, similar to the existing situation.
