The Kaua‘i District Health Office reported two new travel-related cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, Nov. 30.

One case is an adult female resident, and the other is an adult male resident. Both cases participated in the Safe Travels program and reportedly boarded their flight after receiving positive pre-travel test results. All active cases are in isolation, and close contacts are being identified, directed to quarantine, and offered testing.

Sunday’s cases bring the number of on-island active cases to 17, with 131 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 114 confirmed locally, one probable, and 16 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.

Governor David Ige on Friday approved Mayor Derek Kawakami’s Emergency Rule 23, which seeks a temporary moratorium of the Safe Travels program and return to a mandatory 14-day quarantine. The rule goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 2 and will apply to all incoming travelers, including mainland, interisland residents, and visitors.
